Just wanted to update this thread on my experience at the Apple Store. We plugged in the monitor and immediately the red line appeared. I had previously found 4 dead pixels so figured the LCD was the culprit.
The 'genius' agreed and pulled up my monitors serial number. 34 days OUT of warranty. *****......
They guy reminds me I did not buy AppleCare and tells me it will be a slap on the wrist and they will order a new LCD and replace it, AT NO COST. $661 repair.
I LOVE APPLE!!!!
So Ive decided to keep it once I get it back and use it as a second display on my 27" iMac. Going big, not going home.
Cheers!

A week old thread isn't considered "dead" yet, right? ;-)
Here's my bedroom... I'm in the middle of doing a lot of redecorating around the house right now, so it's still a bit bare. I'm waiting until after I re-paint to add a few things... (probably some decorations on the dresser and a table lamp next to the bed) but I'm quite happy with how it's turning out!

Out of town and need to find somewhere to pick up the iPhone on launch day. I'm thinking of the local Walmart, but I haven't heard anything about Walmart's launch day supply. Don't want to waste my time. Perhaps AT&T is the safer bet, but who knows what their supply looks like for waiters.

Is TinkerTool even made for this?
If you meant this (http://www.macworld.com/article/42469/2005/01/2waystreet.html) trick, then there is no need for TinkerTool, as you can enable "show hidden files" via Terminal, but that would only work with an iPod usable as disk drive, and the iPod touch does not have that feature, thus exPod (linked above) is enough.

why not leave the connector, and cut/splice the wires to the new switch?
free is better than buying more plastic connectors...
EDIT: didn't see the 'without leaving traces' bit. how about a couple small wire taps. they poke thru the insulation on the two wires and provide connection to the new switch, but could be removed and leave little/no trace of intrusion. best of luck.

If you enable firewire disk mode, or have iTunes open (i think), then this is perfectly normal. The computer cannot access the information if it's dismounted, and you shouldn't disconnect it while mounted. So eject it, wait for the checkmark, then unplug.
Quick way to eject that i'm fond of, iPodEject (try www.versiontracker.com), puts an iPod in your menubar, so you can dismount it with one click while apps are open, etc etc...

I'm using PS3 Media Server. Works great for movies and tv shows. Horrible for music. Have to figure that out and then I'm all set. But liking it way more than the 360 for media needs.

Whether or not a guarantee was given with the repair, in UK and European law, your friend would have an implicit warranty on any repair. Just send it back and politely ask the repairer to do the job properly. Alternatively ask for the money back and buy a refurbished iPod on Fleabay. I have just bought a 120GB Gen 6, which it was like new and it was only 129.
My older Gen 5.5 80GB now does not work on a lot of up to date docks, so I decided to get an additional iPod. Annoyingly anything above Gen 5.5 does not work on the Denison ICE500 ipod link to the optical fibre MOST audio system in my car. Denison have been saying that they will update the firmware but none of the updates so far have enabled Gen 6's to work or there is a fault in the link.

I thought about it, but back out. Back in I picked the U. Village store for the launch of Panther (Mac OS X v10.3). These days, I stay in Bellevue.

I remember the good old days of advantix, I thought it was great too for casual shots. I'd take the time and pick only the good pics you want to save then just scan a couple everytime you sit at the computer. Thats what i did for all my old prints, it may take awhile but doesn't cost anything, and you control the results.
cheers

Sometimes updates do show up, but sometimes not. I haven't been able to determine the reasoning behind it.

I assume you're talking about the flagship store, correct?
Still deciding whether or not to venture out. I'll eventually be getting Leopard on my machine for free through work, so I won't be buying on release night. So it's a matter of whether I just want to join the festivities or not. Hmm...
