USB Overdrive has caused problems for me in the past. It's actually really great until you want to uninstall it or replace it with something else. Then the "fun" begins. I eventually went with a whole OS wipe, but I didn't have the procedure that rtheb points out.

I took a quick look on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/AKG-450-Premium-Foldable-Headphone/dp/B0028N78C0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293737464&sr=8-1 and other than you getting a great price, they seem to be a good set of 'phones. I haven't tried these in particular but I like the feel of small headphones on my ears. The reviews all seem to lean towards these being good portable headphones for mp3 players, laptops ect... My vote will always be Sennheiser 280 pro's in the $100 or less price range though. Killer phones.

Well i've used the same types of disks before without a problem... I used roxio to burn them which i've also used before. So you believe that just because you don't have problems with other discs of the same line, that the problematic disc must necessarily be fine?

Switch off the OS while reading the book and if it can not be done then simply clean the fan and blow inside the system. Every thing will be fine.

Isn't that system capable of 6GB or even 8GB ram?
I would just upgrade and keep it if you can wait. If not, go ahead, but after you're done with design, you'll be looking to sell that for another system again. For the same $700, you can upgrade quite a bit with the current system.

Even after a lifetime of using computers, you occaisionally run into a problem you can't fix on your own.
I've seen bugs even the 14 books on OS X that the biggest bookstore had in store, didn't mention.
Apple has a large set of known problems and workarounds you can search, but not everything is documented, specially not very recent bugs.
Forums on websites are better, since they are a permanent form of communication, but older discussions are often hard to find. Also, users are scattered over dozens of forums.
Why not use the best of both worlds and build a website where everyone can look up AND add problems AND solutions?
Kind of like a Wiki, but better organised into a streamlined, multiple-choise system, protected and with a (hidden)email system to warn users of new content, like in a forum.
I can't find such a system (do you? let me know!), so I intend in building it myself if I have to. I have a 'dummy version' set up over here (http://beeldbuijs.nl/releaf_0.3) with just some fake text, to give you something more 'real' to look at.

over priced best advice is that if you want the 2010 model is to go on
Apples refurbished site and at least you get a machine with any problems
fixed and you get an 1 year Apple warranty or pay 200 more and get
a faster macine.

I've a Mac Pro 1.1 and have been running games under Windows 7 for a couple years now (previously XP) just fine. However, my x1900xt - which has somehow managed NOT to fail like everybody else's, is really starting to show it's age.
In lieu of Skyrim being released in this upcoming November, I've been considering saving up and buying a second rig entirely devoted to PC gaming. Now, however, with the 5770 available for the Mac Pro, I'm wondering if it's worth simply going with that and saving myself a lot of money?
Have any of you had a similar dilemma, and if so what would you recommend?
I intend to run games at my monitor's native resolution of 1900x1080.

Hey guys - I emailed nullriver and got a very fast response. Here it is, and it worked for me... I'm awarding myself the "dumbass award" ;-)
"Hi,
Are you sure you are looking under teh correct section? For example audio podcasts will only appear under the PS3's Music section and Videos/video podcasts only under the PS3's Videos section. Photos will only appear under the Photos section.
Also check to make sure that MediaLink is configured correctly, for example, in the System Preferences->MediaLink->Sources->iTunes section be sure that "Share only tracks that are checked in iTunes" is NOT checked."
My problem was that I was looking under the videos - not the music section on the PS3. Fixed.

I just bought a mac mini and the plan was to run it through my tv using an HDMI cord. When I go to set things up. I get to the display section in "system preferences" and I started playing around with resolutions to see which would work best with the tv that I have. All the sudden the tv screen went black and now the tv doesn't detect the mac mini through HDMI. After restarting the computer the apple logo would come up and everything would start to boot and then it's like the tv and computer would drop the signal. I don't think that it's something that I done with the resolution.
I checked and seen that this is a common problem, but I don't know how to fix this problem. Any advice is good advice and I really appreciate it.

I ahve an older HP wireless printer. The Printer is asking for a WEP for the network 13 or 26 characters. Where can I find the AE WEP?
use the airport utility to activate wep on your network and/or assign a wep keyphrase. if you set up your network then you should know the keyphrase you created.

zen's advice is good. If it is a blown capacitor issue and you are handy with a solder, you stand a good chance of getting it up and running.
However, if it is the video card that is toast, you should pass on the purchase. Is it theoretically possible to replace the video card? Yes. Is it easy, or worth the effort. Probably not.
If you're able to inspect the machine, it would be good to bring a phillips screwdriver and open up the back of the computer to check the caps. If possible, you could also try to drive an external display. If the internal display panel is the problem, don't bother buying the machine either.
My $0.02, I'd stay away from this iMac. The iSight G5 iMacs are less problematic than the pre-iSight models, and you can find a good deal on many of these machines if you hunt around.
Were it me, I'd contact the seller and say, "Look, the machine isn't worth $120 in its current state. If you can't sell it at your asking price, call me back if you just want to unload it. I'll give you $50 for it." If they take you up on it, great. If not, move along, nothing to see here.

Wow just noticed I had a screen image burn-in on my iPad 2
Didn't know LCDs were susceptible to burn-in? I noticed it while on the eBay App while it was displaying a grey background, I saw the outline of the keyboard. Took a snap shot of the screen to make sure it wasn't a strange anomoly or something and while on that grey screen, I still notice the burned-in keyboard layout. It stays in the same spot when switching from landscape to portrait.
Anyone else have this problem?

Hi, Mac collectors:
I have a dandy Powermac 7100/66, but I love this antediluvian model. But
today my printer died (I don't think the Mac ever will!), and I can't find another
one with the 8-pin connector. Is there any kind of adapter out there that will work,
or how can I get my "stuff" off of this old Powermac?
Any suggestions on where to pick up a used printer that still uses the 8-pin
connector would be greatly appreciated. Or can I down-loan everything off
the computer onto floppys. Then what?
