I have an iphone 4 that ive had since june and never updated past 4.0.1.
I tried to do a reset on the phone and it just got stuck in a boot loop.
I have it in DFU mode now and i have the 4.0.1 ipsw file, but i cant restore it through the latest version of itunes or itunes 9.1.
How can I do this?
Thanks
without SHSH blobs save, you can't restore to 4.0.1. Apple is currently signing 4.3.2 and you can only restore to this firmware only if you don't have SHSH blob save.

I know you were asking about books, but there's a more in depth documentary called "Welcome to Macintosh". It really covers the development of the original and some later history. They even go into how they came to use the Motorola 68000 and even the history of the startup sounds. Read the movie synopsis for more info. I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in Apple history.
It's available for rent at the iTunes store.
Thanks I have seen that one. Actually have it in my iTunes library already :)
Keep the suggestions coming guys/gals thanks.

I would except I threw away the reciept and packaging a while ago. I'll just continue using this one until I can find a good deal on a better one.
Ok. Switcheasy hasn't come up with anything yet. :o

Mine has the same bug with the flash. As for the focusing blue square, mine focuses, then disappears.

AT&T is selling the 4 gig's for $299, the 8 gigs are going for $349 on apple refurb.
I know some people might not like this, but I'm looking to pick up a used one somewhere in the 150-200 range for a 4 gig, 200-250 for an 8 gig.
I'm willing to sacrifice condition for price. The screen must be perfect, but I don't mid scratches on the back.
This might be a great opportunity for you to trade up or just trade in for a brand new iPhone. Hopefully some people are interested.

It's possible that it's a firewall problem on either your end or, more likely, the hospital's wifi. I can't offer any concrete reason why but a lot of public wifi's block things for one reason or another. It could easily be the case with whatever service provider you're trying to get emails from.
So are there any settings or anything I can try to adjust from my end to see if that's the problem? I'm curious to know if it's my email server for some reason or if it's just the wifi network here at the hospital not allowing it. Ideally I'd like to find a solution.

So my MacBook 1,1 is having problems with Wifi dropping and sometimes it can't link to a hotspot. This is an intermittent issue. Is this an issue with the MacBooks airport? And how difficult would it be to replace?

I am looking into acquiring a NAS unit to accomplish a couple of items. First I would like to use the storage as a time machine backup for the 3 macs in the house. Second, I would like to use it as a centralized iTunes depot that I can access with my laptops both on my LAN and when I'm outside the house. Third, I would like to be able to back up the NAS to an external hard drive so I can take the backup drive out of the house.
I had heard that one issue with a NAS and time machine with multiple computers is that a computer with a larger amount of changes could delete some backups for a computer with lesser amounts of changes.
Anyway, does anyone have any experience or pointers in setting something like this up. Thanks

It does sound like it could be hardware...
Two things that are sort of unlikely, but worth considering:
1) If this happens often enough, can you get someone else to try it? If you have many calluses on your fingers, or something like this, then sometimes this will interfere with the trackpad functioning.
2) The trackpad also will behave erratically or not at all if it gets wet.
But barring those things, if this happens in Linux, it sounds as if there is something wrong with your hardware. :(

Is it possible for my Mac mini to receive a AirPort signal, then share it with a different security scheme? For example, my AirPort Extreme basestation is secured by WPA, then my Mac mini connects to that network, and then in turn creates a wireless network of it's own, that's secured by WEP. Is this possible? And if so, how do I do this? Thanks.
In Sharing -> Internet, when you select the outgoing port as Airport, you can specify the new network's features via the Airport Options button, including a name, and a password. But you only get the option of 40 bit and 128 bit WEP keys. It doesn't seem like you can do WPA1/2. So if you're on a WPA network, I think you will automatically still create an open or WEP network under your Mac....

The ATV was not outputting 1080P so that is something to consider.
What does a 720P encode played via iTunes look like? I never tried them back to back, but I never noticed a difference between ATV & Mini playing the same file. In fact I'm now using 3 ATVs and mini is just a headless server I VNC into occasionally. The minimal loss in quality that comes with not being able to do 1080P is more than made up for in the simplicity of the ATV IMHO.

1. is the samsung grey out?
2. what filesystem does the samsung drive use? Go to applications then the utililes folder for this and double click disk utility the filesystem must be hfs or mac os journed
Hello Littleb2005,
The Samsung is not greyed out.
I previously erased the disk with the Disk Utility, choosing the format Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Does it have to be 1333mhz? what if it's 1600mhz DDR3 memory like this one .. also does it mean higher the mhz the faster the ram?
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/hyperx_us/partsinfo.asp?root=&ktcpartno=KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G
Yes the number is the speed but it will fall back to 1333mhz, if you are buying Kingston ram, I would buy this KTA-MB1333/4G two of these will give 8gb with the 4 already installed you'll have 12gb. the hyper X will do nothing for you but cost more.

I have read a few places that people have been successful going up to 4gb of ram in the mid 07 mini but as per apple's specs the max you can put in is 2gb.
My question is has anyone upgraded their 07 mini to 4gb and did you have any issues running?

Things have been a bit sluggish on the front page today due to high traffic, so you may have noticed a brief outage or two.
